Orcas sank sailing boat, crew rescued by fishermen

Fri Aug 05 11:42:07 CEST 2022 Timsen

The 'Festas Andre' saved five people after their boat had been attacted by a group of rampaging killer whales off Sines on July 31, 2022. After they boarded a life raft, the nearby fishing boat was called by the Portuguese Navy and told to find the stranded passengers and rescue them. After the castaways were safely taken on board, the fishermen noticed that the attacked boat had completely sunk. The Navy, through the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Lisbon, in conjunction with the Captain of the Port of Sines, coordinated the rescue of the five crew members 11 kilometres off the coast.
