Water ingress in engine room
The 'Frontier Unity' with 24 crew members on board suffered water ingress 15 nautical miles off the coast of Mackay in Queensland's north on Jan 24, 2023, and issued a distress call before midday, while the ship was waiting to moor at Hay Point in a coal-loading zone in pos. 21° 11.59' S 149° 33.33' E. The vessel began taking on water in the engine room when the pumps ceased to work. The Volunteer Marine Rescue was called by the police to assist, ferrying divers and engineers to the ship ni order to assess the damage. Emergency repairs have been initiated, and the situation was stabilised as of 5p m. Tugs from Hay Point remained on stand-by to move the vessel to shallower water if the situation deteriorated again.
