Fire disabled fishing vessel

Mon Feb 06 20:38:30 CET 2012 Timsen

On Feb 6, 2012, at 5.4 a.m. the lifeboat "Erik Bye" was called to assist the "Willassen". The skipper reported a fire in the engine room. One of the turbos was burning. The fire was extinguished immediately, but the main engine could not be started again. The "Willassen" was fully loaded and on the way to Smøla for delivery of the fish when she went adrift in Trondheimsleia north of Tjeldbergodden. The wind was south-westerly gale, and the vessel drifted towards the shore of Hitra. The thrusters were intact so they managed to keep the ship from running aground until the "Erik Bye" had taken it in tow to Kristiansund.
