Research vessel rescued skipper of sinking yacht

The US Coast Guard and the crew of the "Hugin Explorer" rescued a 57-year-old man approximately 230 miles offshore of Galveston, Texas, on Feb 13, 2019. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report from the crew of the research vessel stating the sailing vessel "Pomodoro" was taking on water and in need of assistance. The "Hugin Explorer"’s crew relayed the mariner’s radio distress calls to Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders. A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew were launched to the scene. The crew of the "Hugin Explorer" arrived on scene and transferred the mariner from the sinking vessel. The MH-65 helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted the mariner from the good Samaritan vessel and transferred him to Scholes International Airport in Galveston, Texas.

Siem Offshore secures seismic vessel extension

Siem Offshore has announced that it has reached an agreement with Fugro Geo Vessels to extend the current charter period for the seismic node vessel Hugin Explorer for 15 months. Fugro last extended the charter of the 2006-built in April 2012 for a period of six years. The extension will take the firm period of the charter to July 1 2019.
