All nine crew members safely ashore

After the 'Gia Bao 19' sank in pos. 16 25 48 N, 108 05 24 E on Dec 16, all crew members were safely rescued, including two who went missing and spent hours drifting at sea. In the morning of Dec 17, the Coastguard agency of the Thua Thien Hue province was notified of the distress situation after the vessel suffered flooding in a hold through a broken pipe. The ship sank at 04.45 a.m. All nine crew members abandonedship into a life raft, but two were swept away by high waves. The 'Haian Park' rescued the seven castaways in the raft at 3 p.m. They were handed over to the Coastguard for evaluation and medical care; two had minor injuries and were cared for by the agency's medical team. The other two crew members were initially thought to have been lost at sea, and a search was launched. A good samaritan fishing vessel found and rescued them later that day and returned them safely to the port of Da Nang.

Freighter sank in South China Sea - crew accounted for

The 'Gia Bao 19' (IMO: 8667880) suffered water ingress in the cargo hold and sank in the South China Sea on Dec 16, 2023 about 35 nautical miles north of Da Nang, in the waters of Phu Loc. The ship was en route from Hai Phong to Vung Tau. An SAR operation was launched by the MRCC Vietnam with two crew members initially missing. They were rescued by a fishing vessel after they were found drifting at sea, so that all crew members have been accounted for.

Grounded ship refloated

The 'Khanh Ngoc 18' which had run aground in Binh Dinh and Phu Yen waters on Oct 30, could be refloated on Nov 3. Before, the anchor of the dredger 'Long Chau' which had got entangled with the propeller of the 'Khanh Ngoc 18' was disconnected. The vessel was towed by the 'Cuu Long 26' towards Quy Nhon port.
