Ferry caught fire and was evacuated in Gresik

After a fire on Aug 13, 2025, at 10. p.m., the KMP 'Gili Iyang', which serves the Gresik-Bawean route, finally underwent repairs. All of the ship's cargo, including bulk cargo, basic necessities, and various other commodities, was unloaded at the Port of Gresik. The KMP 'Gili Iyang' had departed from Gresik Port, at around 8.30 p.m. WIB, with the destination of Bawean Island. About 1.5 hours later, when passing through the Bouy 8 area in the waters of Karang Jamuang, the fire broke out in pos. 06.41'578" S-112.40'213" W in the Surabaya Shipping Lane in Gresik waters in the lower part of the ship in the cargo area for bulk goods and vehicles. Meanwhile, passengers were on the second d3ck. The cause of the fire was suspected to be an electrical short circuit. The incident did not result in any fatalities. The passengers were immediately evacuated and handled at the passenger terminal. Only some of the luggage was burned. The 'Gili Iyang' was carrying 220 passengers, consisting of 164 adult economy class passengers, 16 children and 40 business class passengers. In addition, there were also 62 class II vehicles on board.

Ferry damaged in allision

The 'Gili Iyang' failed to depart for Bawean Island from Paciran Lamongan Harbor in the evening Jan 22, 2024, at 9 p.m. WIB because it was hit by high waves. The ship allided with the pier and suffered damage. There were many vehicles and passenger on board. Until 11 p.m. WIB, the passengers were waiting.
