Yacht towed to Port Nelson
The 'Golden Opus' was salvaged by the 'Hohapata – Sealord Rescue' of the Coastguard Nelson after it lost steering off Grenville Harbour on d’Urville Island on Feb 2, 2022, at 2.30 p.m. en route from Picton to Torrent Bay in Abel Tasman National Park. The Coastguard Nelson reached the vessel about 4 p.m. It’s steering had become seriously jammed and was hard to move. This made it difficult to tow because of the risk of the tow rope breaking. The yacht had to be slowly towed back to Nelson at a speed of 2,5 knots and arrived back in Nelson on Feb 3 at 3.15 a.m. The Nelson harbour master S was also in attendance. He helped assess entry conditions for the Coastguard to reach the vessel and helped guide the yacht back to Port Nelson.
