Chinese think tank claimed offsore ship to be spying

Tue May 18 09:25:53 CEST 2021 Timsen

The Chinese think tank South China Sea Strategic Situation Probing Initiative (SCSPI) claims that the 'Grand Canyon II' has been used to spy on China, on behalf of the US defense. The SCSPI submitted evidence before the allegation but pointed out that the ship has been sailing in the South China Sea and near Taiwan in recent months. The 'Grand Canyon II' has also called at Yokosuka, where the US Navy has a base, which, according to the Chinese, made it very likely that the ship was spying for the United States and may also have been used as a mother ship for U.S. agents involved in covered operations. The American oil company Helix Energy, which has chartered the ship, dismissed all accusations as free imagination.
