Salvage aborted after oil leakage

Thu Jul 13 10:35:33 CEST 2017 Timsen

The salvage of the sunken "Emilly Sophia - GRE 34" at the Sluis Quay in Hoogezand had to be stopped on July 12 when a large amount of oil leaked into the water. The wreck had been barred off with oil booms for some time, but during the salvage work again oil started leaking. A special fire fighting team was on scene to check the oil boom and, if necessary, move it. When the next attempt to raise the wreck would be taking place was still unknown. The Bedum's fire department laid out additional oil booms on July 12 to prevent the oil from spreading further. Two weeks ago the ship had already been lifted and all the water was pumped out. Unfortunately, one day later the ship was on the bottom again. Because oil leakage is getting worse, it is decided to lay down additional oil screens. Raised fishing vessel sank again one day after salvage

Fri Jul 07 10:30:06 CEST 2017 Timsen

On June 21, 2017, the "Emilly Sophia - GRE 34" sank in the port of Martenshoek. On June 30 two cranes from Wagenborg, a diver and three pumps were working to raise the wreck. The company Nautechnics from Kiel Windeweer had been contracted to salvage the the wooden ship which had sunk probably due to the large temperature difference which shrunk the ship's wood so that water flowed in. There was no pump on board. After the ship was floating again, salvor All Kalverboer left the site, only to hear that the ship had foundered again on July 1. The owner still had not placed a pump aboard. The ship was likely to be raised again next week.
