GULAFSHAN
Somali pirates attacked the "Atlantic" on May 2, 2010, on its way from Singapore for the Suez Port in the Gulf of Aden. The pirates were using 22 boats but failed to hijack the ship after Iranian warships rushed to the rendezvous point to confront the attackers. Despite the Iranian warships' warning shots, pirates continued their attack on the cargo ship so that the Iranian forces opened direct fire at the assaulting boats. which then retreated into Oman's territorial waters.
