Disabled ship anchored off Tsugaru City

Sun Feb 18 19:02:48 CET 2024 Timsen

On Feb 16, 2024, at around 7 a.m. on the 16th, the 'Gua Maru 1' suffered an engine failure approximately 10 kilometers off the coast of the Cape Kodomari South Lighthouse and intended to anchor off Kodomari. The Coast Guard was informed, and the ship then drifted southward in the Sea of Japan, and at around 1:35 p.m. it anchored approximately four kilometers off the coast of Tsugaru City, where repair works commenced. The two Chinese and 12 Vietnamese crew members were not injured. The ship had sailed from Tokachi Port, Hokkaido and was heading for Sakata Port, Yamagata Prefecture. Around 2 a.m., the Hakodate Coast Guard's patrol boat Tsugaru attempted to tow the ship to the shore to prevent it from running aground, but the operation was suspended due to rough seas. The headquarters was in constant contact with the ship. Report with photo: https://news.goo.ne.jp/article/toon/region/toon-20240216205701.html#google_vignette
