HACI KOKSAL MATARACI 8846670
In the morning of Jan 23, 2011, a fire broke out aboard the "Haci Koksal Mataraci“ underway from Tarragona to Fos, 25 miles north of Menorca. While the fire could be tackled by the crew, the 1st officer had to be medevaced by helicopter and was taken to a hospital at Santa Caterina, Girona. Also other members of the mainly Turkish crew of 15 were injured, but had to wait as winds up to 74 miles and 6 m wave height hampered the rescue operation. The tugs "Punta Mayor” and “Red Cougar” at 12.40 a.m. arrived from Tarragona and towed the vessel to a sheltered area.
