Salvage plan approved

On March 25, 2022, the Quang Nam Port Authority has approved a plan to salvage the 'Hai Ha', which sanko off Cu Lao Cham in Quang Nam on Dec 5, 2020. The wreck still has 2,250 tonnes of cement on board. Salvage operations are expected to take about 45 days.

Freighter sank off Cu Lao Cham

The 'Hai Ha 28' issued a distress signal on Dec 5, 2020, around 5 a.m. after suffering water ingress and a flooded engine room, sinking. The ship was anchored off Cu Lao Cham island in the Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam, sheltering from rough weather and was due to dock at Chu Lai port, Quang Nam province, with a cargo of cement. The ship sank, partially protruding above the surface. The nine crew members and one passenger were safely evacuated.
