In the morning of Aug 11, 2018, the two SAR boats 412 and 274 of the Marine Surveillance and Navigation Coordination Center brought all 11 crew members of the "Hai Ha 38", which had got in distress in a storm, to safety in good health. At 2 a.m. the Vietnames MRCC had received a distress call of the ship which was carrying 1,600 tons of bricks from Quang Ninh to Can Tho in pos. 16.015' N - 10.80 22' E. The crew prepared to abandon the ship which had developed a 40 degrees list to starboard in the strong winds of a tropical depression and which was about to sink when it requested assistance. At 2.36 a.m. the boats were launched and arrived on scene at 3.20 a.m. The crew had rafts ready and deployed a fallreep at the port side stern. One crew member jumped into the sea in panic, and while the SAR 274 successfully searched for him, the SAR 412 rescued the others. The castaways were taken to shore and checked in hospital.
