Skandi Skolten drained 1000 liters oil from wreck of German submarine "U 864"

Thu Mar 14 11:07:29 CET 2013 Timsen

The Norwegian Coastguard, using the "Skandi Skolten", has surveyed all diesel tanks of the sunken German submarine "U 864" and drained one ton fuel out of three tanks. The others were found punctured and empty due to corrosion. The work of the "Skandi Skolten" was completed with a control of the stell plates and some welding. The data gained during the work will be used regarding the handling of any mercury containers on board. The NCA will submit a plan until the end of 2013. "U864" was sunk by the British submarine HMS "Venturer" on Feb 9, 1945, two miles west of Fedje in Hordaland.
