Grounding off railway bridge

Sun Aug 03 08:56:40 CEST 2014 Timsen

On July 31, 2014, at 7.25 p.m. the "Herzog Tassilo" ran aground on the Danube on a stone bar at the railway Bridge Poikam in the lock canal of Bad Abbach. The pusher tug was carrying a 70-m-barge with 3000 tons sunflower seeds and had got out of control due to the strong currents. The ships got perpendicular to the fairway and had to be towed away by a 180-m-barge in the night. During this time the weir in Bad Abbach was closed to reduce the current. Experts surveyed the damage, the ship traffic was flowing again in the late afternoon of Aug 1. Barge train allided with dam

Thu Jan 30 10:58:25 CET 2014 Timsen

The "Herzog Talisso" underway with barges carrying 3200 tons of coal allided with the entrance of the Main-Danube-Canal-lock in Haidhof, Riedenburg, in the morning of Jan 29, 2014. The ship was too fast, the piolice found out. The ship which had a crew of seven damaged a dam and continued its voyage. The Romanian master only stopped 16 km further short before reaching the Kelheim lock in Gronsdorf and reported the accident to the lock guide. The bow of the front barge was damaged and suffered water ingress. The river authorities in Nürnberg und Regensburg were notified and ordered the ship to remain at the quay and that the leak was patched before the 190-m-barge train was being allowed to proceed further to Regensburg.
