Ferry sold to Spanish company

The 'TT Express' has been sold to Servicios y Concesiones Maritimas Ibicenca, a bookings, transportation, and vehicle rentals maritime company in Spain. The vessel was sold for a little over US$3. A memorandum of agreement that was signed on February 25, 2021. The ferry was bought in 2006 for $20 million. In July 2018, the Prime Minister announced the government had decided to sell it after it experienced several electrical and mechanical issues that would cost the government over US$10 million in repairs.

Ferry withdrawn for safety reasons

The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has withdrawn the T&T Express ferry "Incat 046".Port officials issued a statement in the night of Feb 7 noting that the vessel was pulled to secure the safety of passengers, vehicles and crew. Customers who have purchased confirmed tickets during the period February 8 to 14 will be accommodated on Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) flights based on the availability of seats. The vehicles of passengers with confirmed tickets will be accommodated on the daily sailing of the Cabo Star and all ticket holders will be shuttled via PTSC to the Piarco International Airport and the ANR International Airport accordingly at no additional cost. Confirmed passengers will be required to check in at the Port of Spain or Scarborough Passenger Terminal prior to accessing the shuttle. The newly leased passenger ferry "Galleons Passage" was expected to be delivered to NIDCO in China on Feb 7. The vessel is scheduled to set sail for Trinidad and Tobago on Feb 9 and will arrive in approximately two months.

Ferry broke down due to mechanical issues

Repairs to the T&T Express ferry "Incat 046" were still on-going after the ferry had encountered mechanical issues upon its arrival into the Scarborough Harbor on Jan 28, 2018. Some of the parts needed for repairs were expected to arrive in the country on Feb 2, and all attempts will be made to complete the works in the shortest possible time. The dedicated cargo vessel "Cabo Star" continued to sail as scheduled from Port of Spain at 2.00 p.m. and from Tobago at 11.00 p.m.
