Listing freighter abandoned
All 11 crew members of the "Mutha Pioneer" were rescued by two Fast Attack Craft of the Western naval command, Colombo, early on June 26, 2018. The vessel which had sailed from Colombo onJun 25 at 12.50 p.m. and had developed a strong list to port after the captain lost control 11,6 miles off Colombo port. Among the rescued were 10 Sri Lankans and one Indonesian national. The castaways were handed over to the Harbour Police, Colombo, by the Sri Lanka Navy. Grounding on Thilafushi Reef
The "Mutha Pioneer" ran aground on the Thilafushi reef on Dec 9, 2014, around 4:00 p.m. The cargo ship had offloaded cargo to Gaaf Dhaal Atoll and had been trying to enter the harbor near Thilafushi when the incident occurred.It got stuck on the reef located to the North West side of Thilafushi Island. On Dec 10 around 1:45 a.m. it could be refloated by a tug. After the salvage the environmental damage was evaluated.
