Two died in ship fire

Tue Jul 23 11:25:19 CEST 2019 Timsen

Two Ukrainian sailors died in the fire on board the "Ivan Golubets" off the Mauritania coast. The vessel sank in the night of July 21 on a water depth of 35 meters. The fire started in the engine room and quickly spread to the deck. Due to heavy smoke, the captain ordered to abandon ship onto the "Marshal Krylov". The ship’s captain, Crimean Sergey Timchenko, was on a voyage with Ukrainian documents, the former presidential representative in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Boris Babin, said. According to him, there were also at least three cadets from the Kerch State Maritime Technical University he called a fake educational institution under the control of the Russian invaders on board. "The incomprehensible maneuvers of the vessel before the incident, the lack of identifying signes and even IMO numbers, disabling the AIS and the strange actions of the crew during attempts to rescue the ship made him assume that there was something suspect in the holds of the vessel. The "Ivan Golubets" was owned by the Ukrainian state company and was operated by a Latvian businessman of Ukrainian origin. Sun Jul 21 11:51:54 CEST 2019 Timsen

On July 19, 2019, a fire broke out aboard the "Ivan Golubets' off Nouadhibou and quickly spread from the stern to the whole upper deck area. One crew member, an Ukrainian mechanic, was missing and presumed dead. The crew consisted of both Russians and Ukrainians. The trawler was taken on tow by another Georgian trawler, the "Kapitan Sukhondyaevskiy" (IMO: 8136623). Ten days ago, the "Ivan Holubets" for unknown reasons switched off the transmitter and disappeared from electronic cards.
