Two missing after collision

On Aug 24, 2023, at 11.30 p.m. Tokyo time, the 'Izumi Maru' (IMO: 9379026), en route from the Chiba Prefecture to the Okayama Prevecture with a cargp of approximately 1,100 tons of scrap metal, was in collision with the container ship 'Contship Uno' (IMO: 9379026), which was en route from Osaka to Keelung with 18 people on board, 15 kilometers northwest of Hidaka, Wakayama in the Kii Strait, eastern Honshu. The cargo ship capsized and was drifting bottom up in the sea. Of its five crew members, three were rescued and two were missing. The Japanese Coast Guard launched an SAR operation with SAR boats, patrol vessels and helicopter. Divers checked the hull for traces of the two. The 'Contship Uno' suffered damages to its bulbous bow and a breach in the bow above the water line. It berthed in Wakayama on Aug 25 at 4.45 a.m. UTC.
