Ferry refloated
On Apr 26 the "Jack Daniel" has been refloated from its grounding position. An investigation was still ongoing to determine the effect of the incident on the coral reef. There would be penalties depending on the damage found. Divers from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will check the area where the vessel ran aground to assess any possible damage incurred.Correspondent. The Philippine Coast Guard Station in Pantao have asked the captain of the ferry to file a Marine Protest regarding the incident.
Ferry grounded in Ragay Gulf
The "Jack Daniel" ran aground in position 13 10N 123 17E in Southern Luzon waters two miles off Rawis in the Albay Province on Apr 24, 2018, at 5 a.m. The ferry was en route from Pantao to Pioduran after completing repairs. There were no passengers on board, only the 24 crew members. The extent of damages was yet unknown. A BFAR dive team will conduct damage assessment on corals on April 26. The ferry which is plying the Piodouran-Masbate route had been undergoing regular maintenance in Pantao port. A refloating attempt was to take place with the high tide in the afternoon of Apr 24.
