Jessica caused oil spill

Mon Jan 23 11:21:09 CET 2012 Timsen

The "Jessica" on Jan 22, 2012, lost 100 litres oil through a damaged vent. The fire brigades and shipping authorities of Essen, Bottrop and Oberhausen were alerted after a spill of 15 kilometres length was found on the Rhine Herne-Canal. Helicopters found that the "Jessica" was causing the spill and the ship was stopped at the Lirich lock. The canal was closed for ship traffic from 1.15 to 2.15 p.m. between Gelsenkirchen and Oberhausen but the diesel had already vaporized too much to be collected.
