Tue Mar 08 20:42:57 CET 2011 Timsen

In order to eliminate the threat of an oil spill from the "Jutha Pathama" grounded near the Jamnagar Marine National Park, it has been decided to empty the 250 tons of fuel oil from the ship's tank starting on Mar 9, 2011. On Mar 7, a special team visited the grounded vessel near Duni island to check on its status.

JOYO 6 9088419

Tue Mar 08 11:31:18 CET 2011 Timsen

The "Jutha Pathama" ran aground near the Marine National Park in the Gulf of Kutch. The Jamnagar district authority and the government department concerned have swung into action. The vessel was carrying rapeseed extraction meal and castor seeds when it left Kandla on Feb 28, 2011, for South Korea. The Indian Coast Guard station in Vadinar established contact with the ship's master and the grounding has been confirmed. Efforts were made to contact the shipping agent at Gandhidham. There are 20 Thai crew members on board. The ship with 250 tons bunker fuel on board is stuck between Poshitra and Vadinar near Duni island of the national park. The Indian Cost Guard stations at Vadinar and Okha have been regularly patrolling the area.
