Repairs of grounding damage in Tromsø

Sun Oct 29 14:48:25 CET 2017 Timsen

The "Karlsøy", which had run aground on Oct 26, 2017, at 11 a.m. near Vengsøyat enroute to Vågsøy, was pulled off by a Coastguard vessel in the afternoon. The ship was taken to Tromsø for further inspections by the Maritime Directorate and repairs, where she arrived at 9.45 p.m. and actually was still remaining. At the time of the grounding a crew of four and two passengers were on board. They were not injured. The "Vengsøy" was called in to replace the ship. Ferry KARLSOY ran aground shoerlt after 1100 UTC Oct 26, while en route from Vengsoy island to Belvika with 6 people on board. She was refloated several hours later and reached Belvika. Later that day she sailed to Tromso, probably for inspection and repairs.

Ferry assisted distressed fishermen

Sat Feb 20 18:23:53 CET 2016 Timsen

On Feb 20, 2016, the "Karlsøy" came to the rescue of two fishermen in the Kaldfjord off Kvaløya in Tromsø at 3 p.m.. Their fishing boat had lost propulsion, and they needed immediate assistance. The JRCC notified the "Karlsøy" which had trouble to lower a rescue boat due to strong winds and high seas. The two managed to climb onto a rock, and the ferry remained on scene and waited for the lifeboat "Kaptein Skaugen" which was called from Sommarøy and picked up the men at 4 p.m. Norwegian report with photo: http://www.nordlys.no/redningsaksjon-utenfor-tromso/s/5-34-372364
