Rickmers-Linie christens the 19,100 dwt Pacific Winter as Rickmers Chennai at Hamburg

Sat Jul 06 08:21:24 CEST 2013 arnekiel

HAMBURG-based Rickmers-Linie, specialist in the global sea transport of breakbulk, heavylift and project cargo, has on July 1, 2013 renamed the 19,100 dwt Pacific Winter as the Rickmers Chennai at a ceremony in Hamburg. The heavylift multi-purpose Rickmers Chennai has been renamed in a ceremony in Hamburg with the daughter of the ship's owner, Christine Winter, acting as a sponsor of the vessel. The ship's reduced size allows it greater flexibility in port calls where depth, berth lengths and turning circles are restricted and pose difficulties to larger vessels of 30,000 dwt on its Round-The-World Pearl String Service. The vessel is part of a deal including the sister ship Baltic Winter, now the Rickmers Dubai, which was chartered more than a year ago. It is the fourth vessel on charter from Reederei Heino Winter that includes the smaller Rickmers Chittagong and the Rickmers Mumbai which meet the demands of flexibility needed in its Mideast/India-European service. The ceremony, attended by 200 guests and employees of Reederei Heino Winter and Rickmers-Linie, also provided an opportunity to present Deputy Port Captain Andreas Brummermann, the master of the Rickmers Chennai, with the Admirality Coat of Arms, a traditional gift to ships calling at the Port of Hamburg for the first time.
