Wreck discovered off Kubu

Wed Nov 13 10:21:39 CET 2019 Timsen

The 'Bintang Jaya VI' was discovered by local authorities lying capsized in the waters off Kubu in Karangasem while patrolling the area but could not salvage it yet. A white flag was placed to warn passing ships and to avoid accidents. The vessel had caught fire and capsized around Singaraja in Bali, and could have been swept away by the strong currents.

Crew interrogated before repatriation

Sat Nov 09 20:52:15 CET 2019 Timsen

The crew of the 'Bintang Jaya VI' was interviewed by local authorities regarding the working conditions aboard the vessel before they were repatriated on Nov 6. One of the crew members stated that before the fire erupted, the captain asked him to check the vessel's propeller as they could feel the vessel shaking. He saw that a rope was stuck in the propeller and it took about ten minutes before he was able to untangle it. Shortly after that the crew noticed a fire begin which quickly spread and engulfed the vessel.

Fish carrier caught fire, crew safe

Tue Nov 05 19:19:57 CET 2019 Timsen

The 'Bintang Jaya VI', 168 gt, suffered problems in the waters of North Bali on Nov 5, 2019, at 4.15 p.m. A fire broke out aboard the ship that had departed from Probolinggo and was heading to Lombo Papua to collect a cargo of fish. Initially the propeller was fouled when a rope of five meters length wrapped around it. After the rope was cut by a crew member in the water, he returned to the ship. While the skipper tried to restart the ship's engine, sparks occured, and a fire broke out 50.64 miles from Celukan Bawang Port. It quickly spread to the foreship where some fuel was stored. All 10 crew members jumped into the sea and clinged to a buoy of the ship. The Basarnas rescue team was called to assist and deployed a boat of the Buleleng Post Basarnas Team at 5.20 p.m. A Hongkong flagged cargo ship which was nearby took them aboard two hours after they jumped over board. At 9.30 p.m. they arrived in the port of Celukan Bawang and checked by a medical team.
