Ferry grounded on Žirje

The MRCC Rijeka was alerted in the morning of Feb 6, 2019, that the 'Komiža' had suffered damage to one of the engines and ran aground in the rocky shore of the bay of Muna on the island of Žirje at 6.15 a.m. in pos. 43 23 52.8N, 15 56 09.6 E. The ship had just left port, and the captain was unable to correct the course in the narrowe bend so it got stuck. At 8:15 a.m., the rescue vessel from Šibenik pulled the 'Komiža' off. None of the four passengers nor crew were injured and no marine pollution has been detected. Damage to bow and stern was expected. The ship served the route Žirje - Kaprije - Sibenik since Jan 1, 2018. It was towed to the Sibenik Repair Shipyard.
