Ship suffered another engine failure

Tue Dec 23 14:41:50 CET 2014 Timsen

On Dec 22, 2014, the "Konstantinos" was released and left the Voith Quay in Kiel on Dec 23 at 2 a.m., but while passing the canal locks in Kiel-Holtenau around 2.30 a.m. the engines failed again. The ship was ordered to return to the Voith Quay. It left the lock at 4.45 a.m. and was back at its longtime berth at 5.30 a.m. German report with photo: http://www.kn-online.de/Lokales/Kiel/Weiterfahrverbot-nach-Maschinenausfall-MS-Konstantinos-bleibt-in-Kiel

Ship detained in Kiel due to several defiencies following PSC

Thu Dec 18 10:41:52 CET 2014 Timsen

The "Konstantinos" which had suffered engine trouble during the eastbound transit of the Kiel Canal on Dec 9 and had to be stopped by an emergency anchoring at Groß-Nordsee, was detained in Kiel at the Vouth Quay due to several defiencies the police found during a port state control, a.o. regarding aspects of ship safety and fire fighting equipment. Only when the crew has cleared these, the ship may continue to St. Petersburg. Another problem is, that the engine is fired with heavy fuel which is forbidden on the Baltic Sea on Jan 1, 2015. As the bulkcarrier has no scrubber, it will have to leave the Baltic Sea then. It was doubted whether cargo operations in St. Petersburg will be completed until this day. Already on Nov 21 the French authorities found five defiencies during a control, and in March the Dutch authorities found 18 defiencies while the ship was in Amsterdam. Also in 2012 the ship was detained in Dublin due to defiencies. However, these were exceeded by the amount of defiencies the German authorities now had listed.
