Race yacht refloated

The refloating operations of the 'Kriter V' took place on Jan 24 in Saint Malo. It took three pumps to drain the water from the ship, which was pulled by a crane as it became lighter. The recovery in the Duguay-Trouin basin took all day and mobilized significant ressources of the Saint-Malo company TSMB (Travaux sous-marins Bretagne). Yacht still on the bottom

Three days after sinking of the 'Kriter V' in the Duguay-Trouin basin in Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine), the yacht was still submerged on Jan 19. A refloating operation could take place soon according to the port authorities. As a precaution, the city's firefighters installed stabilizing buoys at the ends of yacht which was resting at a depth of six meters. During this securing operation, the divers had also ruled out any risks of pollution with possible fuels stored on board. Before the refloating of this sailboat, divers will also have the task of inspecting all opeinings in the hull in order to check their closure and their good working order. Legendary Route du Rhum yacht sank in Saint Malo

The 'Kriter V' sank in the Jacques-Cartier basin in Saint-Malo in the night of Jan 15, 2023. The owner of the boat was in contact with the port captain of Saint-Malo to determine the best way to salvage the ship. n the afternoon of Jan 16, divers inspected the submerged yacht. The cause of the sinking remained to be determined. This legendary boat was first skippered in 1978, during the first Route du Rhum, by Michel Malinovsky. The sailor had been overtaken at the finish line in Guadeloupe by Mike Birch, for only 98 seconds. In 2014 and 2018, Benjamin Hardouin and Bob Escoffier started the Route du Rhum on the boat. They both had to give up because the boat was taking on water.
