Fire on tug in New Bedrord

On Dec 7, 2024, at 11:09 a.m., the New Bedford Fire Department responded to calls for a fire aboard the 'Lucinda Smith', that was moored off the Herman Melville Blvd in New Bedford. Engine 1 arrived on scene and reported a large volume of fire extending from the tug.. First arriving crews confirmed that all crew members were accounted for. Marine 38 and the Hazardous Materials Officer also responded to the scene. Multiple crews secured a water supply and deployed two fire atrack hose lines that were backed up by a 2.5” hoseline. The fire involved three areas of the interior including the engine room level, the state or bunk rooms, and the pilot house. A second alarm for the fire was called around 12:30 p.m. The Providence Canteen also responded to the scene.
