Another fire on beached tanker, three workers killed

At least five workers were killed and multiple were missing after the "Rain", beached at at the Ship-Breakers Association Deewan Rizwan in Gadani at Plot 60, caught fire on Jan 8, 2017, for the second time in less than a month. The fire has now been extinguished. More than 50 workers were aboard the ship when fire broke out. Most of them have been safely evacuated, some were missing for the time being. The majority oescaped using life rafts. The victims' bodies were transferred to Civil Hospital Gadani. Fire on tanker at Gadani Beach

On the "Rain", currently beached at the Ship-Breakers Association Deewan Rizwan in Gadani Beach in Balochistan's Lasbela District at plot No. 60 a fire broke out following an explosion on Dec 21, 2016. Dense plumes of fumes emerged, and fire brigade and rescue teams were deployed from Karachi. They managed to take off four workers with an unknown numer remaining on board, who were estimated to be around 100. The ship obviously had not been cleaned from oil before welding work started.
