Freighter assisted disabled yacht

In the morning of Oct 25, 2019, a sailing yacht with a crew of two on board was disabled with a damaged rig in the Baltic Sea North of Zingst, and started to drift towards the wind farm Baltic 1, in stormy weather, facing the risk of an allision with the wind turbine towers. The lifeboat 'Theo Fischer' couldn’t arrive at the site in time to prevent an accident, so the 'Maike' which was nearby was asked to assist the yachtsmen. the freighter managed to take yacht on tow in challenging conditions and hold it in position until the arrival of the lifeboat. The toowline was then passed over and the yacht towed to the emergency port Darßer Ort.
