Hamburg Süd puts CAP CLEVELAND (3,868 teu) into service

Sun Oct 20 07:27:39 CEST 2013 arnekiel

Hamburg Süd will put in service next week the new 3,868 teu container ship CAP CLEVELAND, which the carrier charters from the German non-operating owner F. A. Vinnen & Co. The vessel had been essentially ready for two months, but appears to have been mothballed at the yard until Hamburg Süd needed it. Hamburg Sud will phase the ship into its WCNA to Australia and New Zealand service, jointly offered with CMA CGM and ANL. On this loop, the new ship will replace the above seen 3,104 teu CAP EGMONT. The CAP CLEVELAND is the first of two SDARI 3800 type vessels that Vinnen had ordered in September 2010 at Shanghai Shipyard for a reported price of USD 50 million per ship. The second vessel, also ready but not yet in service, will come on stream as CAP CORAL. For Vinnen, the two ships are accounted for under the proforma names MERKUR FJORD and MERKUR OCEAN. Delivery of MERKUR FJORD

Sun Aug 25 12:15:47 CEST 2013 linervision

The Bremen-based non-operating owner F. A. Vinnen & Co is to take delivery this week of the MERKUR FJORD, the first of two SDARI 3800 type vessels that Vinnen had ordered in September 2010 at Shanghai Shipyard for a reported price of USD 50 million per ship. Upon delivery, Vinnen’s MERKUR FJORD will begin a five year charter with the German carrier Hamburg Süd, for whom she will trade under the charter name CAP CLEVELAND. The vessel is the fifth unit of the 228.00m long and 37.20m (15 rows) wide SDARI 3800 type. According to Vinnen, the ship has a container intake of 3,868 teu, but capacity figures for this type have been stated alternatively as 3,765 teu, 3,820 teu and 3,868 teu, which suggests that some managers assume more conservative deck loads for their calculations than others. Electricity is provided to supply up to 500 reefer containers. Full story:http://linervision.wordpress.com/2013/08/22/vinnen-to-take-delivery-of-merkur-fjord-3868-teu/
