Accident during cargo operations
At Shuwaikh port, Kuwait, one container fell on the quay on Sep 5, 2018, during offloading operations of the "MSC Chiara" with its’ own cranes. The laden container CXRU1407167 fell, due to parting of the wire of crane 4, onto the laden dry container DFSU7636364, whilst awaiting clearance from the wharf, causing extensive damages to both the containers, at around 4.30 p.m. Both containers seemed to be a total loss. Container CXRU1407167 contained temperature-controlled cargo of potatoes and container DFSU7636364 carried furniture. Subsequently, arrangements were being made by the carriers to save the cargo by cross stuffing the cargo to another nominated container.
Container ship sank dredger
On June 20, 2016, the "MSC Chiara" was in collision with the dredger "Macúti" in the access channel of the Mozambican port of Beira. The collision occurred at around 8 a.m. in foggy conditions. The "MSC Chiara" was outbound from the port enroute to Durban when she struck the dredger which had been working in the channel. The dredger was breached and sank with the stern to the bottom. A team formed by staff from Emodraga, the Mozambique Port and Rail Company (CFM), the National Naval Institute (INAMAR) and the Beira Maritime Administration worked to refloat the dredger. On June 29 the navigation in the access channel to the port of Beira has resumed after removal of the "Macúti". The stricken dredger whose engine room was flooded following the collision, was towed to a safe place to make the necessary repairs. The channel dredging will now be done using the dredgers "Aruângua" and "Alcantara Santos", each with a hold capacity of 1,000 cubic metres. Investigations to determine the causes of the accident were ongoing. Photo: https://postimg.org/image/o1jrhi9x3/Upload News
