70 Tonne Bunker Spill From Tanker Responsible for VTTI Terminal Closure

Tue Sep 13 09:43:40 CEST 2016 arnekiel

A spill in Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia in late August, which was responsible for the suspension Vitol Tank Terminals International BV (VTTI) operations there, is said to have been linked to bunker tanker Trident Star, which spilled an estimated 70 tonnes of fuel during a bunkering operation, Maritime Herald reports. As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, VTTI was ordered by the Johor Port Authority to stop operations at the company's ATT Tanjung Bin Sdn Bhd (ATB) terminal after the bunker spill was discovered at the site on August 24. The spill is reported to have occurred as the result of a leaking hose during bunkering, with the crew said to have failed to take appropriate actions to prevent the spread of pollution or report the incident. Dockworkers are said to have reported the spill to local authorities, who detained Trident Star for further investigation. http://shipandbunker.com/news/apac/538654-70-tonne-bunker-spill-from-tanker-responsible-for-vtti-terminal-closure-reports
