Pilot boat capsized, pilot of Calypso dead

Tue Feb 24 23:01:47 CET 2026 Timsen

Nico Ulivieri, 30, while helming a pilot boat, lost his life on the afternoon of Feb 24, 2026, off the port of Livorno. The pilot boat capsized around 2:30 p.m., due to a collision with the ''Calypso', which the pilot had boarded shortly before for the routine port entry maneuvers. The helmsman was trapped in the cockpit. Firefighter divers recovered him lifeless. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. The Livorno Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered the seizure of the ships involved and the Avvisatore Maritime footage, as well as an autopsy, to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident. Super yacht in trouble off the Netherlands

Mon Feb 13 21:26:10 CET 2017 Timsen

During stormy weather the "Calypso" got into trouble in the North Sea, about 30 miles above Vlieland, on Feb 11, 2017. The tug "Simon Smit" of the Company Noordgat towed the ship to Harlingen after she had got out of control due to problems with the steering gear. At 2.30 a.m. the yacht was in serious trouble. The steering was inoperative, and there was water ingress in the engine room. A rear door did not close properly. The wind was blowing hard with about eight Beaufort, and the yacht was pushed out of the fairway. Three salvors went on board to assist the crew of 14. On Feb 13 the tug towed yacht into the port of Harlingen where she was safely berthed at the quay.
