10 tons of fuel were drained from the 'Nam Khanh 36' on Oct 27 to avoid any possible oil spills. The vessel's bow was reportedly damaged when the grounding occurred approximately 300 metres from the shore.
Ship grounded off Bin Dinh
The 'Nam Khanh 36' suffered an electrical failure in the morning of Oct 25, 2020, in the waters of the Binh Dinh Province in South central Vietnam. The vessel was en route from Quy Nhon to Haiphong with 1,830 tons of flour on board. The ship went adrift and grounded on coastal reefs, breaching the hull and suffering water ingress. The ship was then intentionally run aground on the beach approximately 300 metres from the shore to avoid its sinking. The Provincial Border Guard of Binh Dinh received the distress signal from the vessel and dispatched officers to rescue the crew. All ten crew members were safely brought ashore.
