The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has ordered the release of the 'Navios Venus', taking into account the fact that an agreement was reached between the two parties. The parties mutually agreed for the payment of ₹70 lakh as compensation. The petitioner P. Rajamani, the owner of the fishing boat, sought compensation. Due to the impact of the collision, the boat was severely damaged and a few fishermen sustained injuries. He sought the detention of the ship. He said that if the ship was permitted to sail beyond the territorial waters of India, the fishermen injured in the collision and the petitioner would be left without remedy. The court had ordered the detention of the ship which was berthed in the Mumbai Port. With the two parties reaching an agreement over the compensation, the court ordered the release of the ship. The parties were asked to execute a letter of undertaking. The court disposed of the petition. The 'Navios Venus' remained stationary on Mumbai Anchorage as of Nov 13.

Bulk carrier arrested after collision

The Madras High Court directed the authorities of Shipping, Coast Guard and Mumbai Port to detain the 'Navios Venus' following the collision with the 'Shijumon' off the Colachel coast on Oct 22 for three weeks. The petitioner submitted that two out of 17 crew member was seriously injured in the collision when the fishing boat was hit while anchored about 20 miles from the Colachel harbour. The petitioner submitted that the 'Navios Venus' did not follow the operating guidelines framed by the IMO and claimed that the master of the vessel did not provide any humanitarian assistance and proceeded to the next port.

The 'Navios Venus' was in collision with the Indian fishing boat 'Shijumon' in the Laccadive Sea off the cuast of Tamil Nadu in the evening of Oct 22, 2021. Of the 17 fishermen on board, two were thrown into water by the impact, but have been rescued. Both were taken to Thiruvananthapuram government medical college by a medical team from the CG Station Vizhinjam-Thiruvananthapuram. The fishing boat, though being damaged, returned to its home port Colachel under own power. The 'Navios Venus', which had turned back after the accident, later resumed the voyage from Singapore to Mumbai with an ETA as of Oct 25.
