Barge refloated and towed to yard

The "Noorderlicht" was towed to a repair Yard on Aug 19. Sand barge partially sunk on Rhine

On the Rhine at lock between Amerongen and Laurik the "Noorderlicht" partially sank on Aug 18, 2014, around midday. The fire rescue from Tiel, the police launch "P 98" and the "RWS 44" of Rijkswaterstaat were on scene to assist the vessel which was involved in dredging works. The "Batouwe" of the fire rescue tried to dewater the vessel, while another was called to lighter the cargo of sand. A diver tried to patch the leak. Small amounts of oil had leaked out. The partial sinking was caused by a broken exhaust pipe in the engine room. While the bow was still above the water, the aft was submerged.
