Trawler suffered water ingress off Dingle

Mon Feb 27 10:25:26 CET 2023 Timsen

The 'Norderveg' with nine crew members on board suffered water ingress and issued a Mayday call in pos. 52 09 25.0 N, 16 31 00.0 W, approximately 260 miles west of Dingle on Feb 25, 2023, at 8.20 p.m. UTC. At 10.05 p.m. the water level was at 2,8 meters. Pumps have been provided by the nearby f(v 'Kings Bay' at 8.45 p.m. On Feb 26 at 03.20 a.m. the water level was at two metres. The weather deteriorated, with gusts of 15 metres per second and a three-meter swell. At 103.5 p.m. the f/v 'Gunnar Langva' (IMO: 9840489) arrivedon scene and transferred two pumps on board. The trawler 'Hargun' (IMO 9171010) arrived on scene at 11.05 p.m. and transferred one more pump, so that five pumps were working on the vessel. The ship was heading to Killybegs to find more suitable pumps to pump out the remaining water and attempt to identify the source of the water ingress. All pumps on board were working, and the water level was at 1,7 meters. The 'Norderveg' was advised to be in range of a SAR helicopter from Ireland, if required. With the pumps working well, the water level was reduced to approximately 1,5 metres at 8.15 a.m. Two vessels were standing by to provide further assistance if required. The situation was stabilising with the crew relocating pumps further down into the compartment to continue pumping water. In the foremidday of Feb 27 the 'Norderveg' was approaching Killybegs.
