Engine failure off Port Hardy
The 'Northern Expedition' suffered an engine failure while approaching the ferry terminal in Port Hardy, British Columbia, in position 50 47 54.8N, 127 28 14.8W, on June 3, 2021, at 8.45 p.m. Using its port side main engine, the vessel was able to dock safely, and the crew subsequently carried out repairs.
Engine failure near Haida Gwaii
The 'Northern Expedition', serving between Bella Bella and Prince Rupert, suffered a failure on its starboard engine near Haida Gwaii on July 21, 2020. The ferry was held off the dock using its port engine and thrusters until repairs were completed by the crew.

The Northern Expedition' got its starboard main engine disabled in position 53 34 24.0 N, 129 39 33.6 W in the Grenville Channel on March 15, 2020, at 12.05 p.m. The vessel continued to Prince Rupert running on its port side main engine.
