General average following engine room fire
After the engine room fire aboard the 'Northern Jupiter' in the Malacca Strait General Average has been declarred. After the fire was extinguished, the vessel towed back to Singapore on Jan 9 following a class survey and approval from the Malaysian authorities. She arrived back in Singapore on Jan 14 and underwent a detailed inspection to assess damage to the vessel and its cargo. The owner, the VC N Jupiter Shipping from Hamburg, declared General Average on Jan 17. The vessel remained at anchor in Singapore. The owners have appointed Stichling Hahn Hilbrich (Hamburg & London) as Average Adjusters. They will be arranging for the collection of General Average securities from parties concerned in cargo, containers and bunkers. The shipping line recommended customers to inform their cargo insurers of the development as soon as possible.
Fire in engine room
A fire broke out in the engine room of the 'Northern Jupiter' in the early morning of Jan 4, 2020, in the Malacca Strait, en route from Singapore to Port Klang. The ship was anchored. On Jan 10 it was towed back to Singapore and anchored at Singapore roads on Jan 11. It remained moored in position 01° 10.91' N 103° 45.49' E as of Jan 23.
