Lifeboat assisted motor boat which got troubled while recovering people cut off by tide

Tue Sep 09 10:13:12 CEST 2025 Timsen

On Sep 8, 2025, at 12:09 p.m., the motor boat 'Borgot', while navigating in the Charente estuary, suffered an electrical fault, preventing it from continuing its initial mission to recover three people who were cut off by the tide in the area's mudflats. The skipper requested emergency services to recover the people in difficulty. The CROSS Étel immediately deployed a Guépard Yankee helicopter of the French Navy Base in La Rochelle. At 12:24 p.m., two of the three people were safely rescued by a nearby oyster barge. At 12:33 p.m., thehelicopter arrived on the scene and began winching operations. The third person was rescued at 12:40 p.m., also safe and sound, and returned to the 'Borgot'. At 12:55 p.m., the lifeboat 'Notre Dame de Buse-SNS 433' from the SNSM station in La Tremblade was deployed to tow the 'Borgot' to port. However, the crew managed to restart its electrical equipment before the arrival of the lifeboat in the area at 1:54 p.m. The 'Borgot' headed towards the port of Soubise, escorted by the SNSM launch. At 2:19 p.m., the 'Notre Dame de Buse' left the area in order to resume a sampling mission for IFREMER. At 3:35 p.m., the "Borgot" was safely docked at the port of Soubise.
