Yacht capsized

Mon Mar 09 13:43:52 CET 2020 Timsen

The 'Nourah of Riyadh' capsized at the Megatechnica shipyard in Perama on March 8, 2020, at noon, and ended up half-submerged with a list of about 45 degrees to starboard. The accident happened during a lifting operation at a shipyard where anti-fouling works were planned. The 12 crew members could save themselves unharmed. There was material damage to the premises of the yard, as well as to the tourist boat 'Lamadin' which had been lifted ashore before. An emergency plan to deal with any marine pollution was activited and a private company tasked to carry out the anti-pollution work as well as the salvage of the vessel. The relevant Port Authority conducted the preliminary investigation. The yacht was built at Yachtley in 2008 to a design of Donald Starkey and is owned by Prince Turki bin Mohamed bin Fahd Al Saud, the eldest son of Prince Mohamed bin Fahd bin Saud, the eldest surviving son of the late King Fahd.
