Another grounding at Großmannsdorf

Thu Feb 07 00:27:05 CET 2013 Timsen

In the foremidday of Feb 6 the "Orca" drifted perpendicular to the Main fairway at 10.20 off the lock Goßmannsdorf and got stuck after the strong currents pushded the vessel onto a dam. The ship was bound for the Netherlands with a cargo of 1000 tons grain. It was secured with ropes. The "Orca" was refloated assisted by a workboat and a dredge of the Schweinfurt River Authority at 3.45 p.m. German Report with photos and video: http://www.mainpost.de/regional/franken/Schon-wieder-Havarie-an-Schleuse;art1727,7286228

Grounding on Danube

Thu Jan 24 20:07:23 CET 2013 Timsen

On Jan 24, 2013, the "Orca" being loaded with 810 tons feed ran aground at Winzer, Deggendorf district, near the Mühlhamer Loop on the right shore of the Danube sailing river upstream. The cargo was to be lightered onto another ship. Meanwhile the ship, which was grounded outside the fairway, was secured with anchors and ropes to the shore. Traffic on the river was not affected. The grounding position was seen as complicated because the water levels are often changing on short term.
