Reefer crew spotted shipwrecked migrants

Tue Sep 27 11:39:11 CEST 2022 Timsen

Salvamento Marítimo rescued two men of sub-Saharan origin in the waters of San Pedro del Pinatar who, according to their testimony, had survived for more than 12 hours at sea after the boat in which they were underway along with other people was shipwrecked on Sep 26, 2922. The crew of the 'Paloma Reefer', which had arrived from Cartgena and anchored off the port, reported on Sep 25 around 4:15 a.m. that they had located two people swimming in the sea with symptoms of hypothermia. Immediately, Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the Helimar 223 helicopter, among other means, to carry out the rescue. Once safe, the two migrants reported that their boat had capsized on Sep 25 between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The SAR boat 'Salvamar Draco' and the SAR helicopter along with patrol boats of the Civil Guard and the National Police continued to search for more castaways in the area, to date with no results.
