Leader of the Norwegian Fishermen's Association died in grounding accident
On Jan 9, 2022, the 'Peik F-43-HV' (MMSI:257768600) of Reidar Nilsen (74) the leader of the Norwegian Fishermen's Association, ran aground outside Gamvik near Slettnes Lighthouse in Finnmark. He is believed to have died. His son Remi Andre Nilsen (43) has been found dead at 2.40 p.m. near the heavily damaged wreck. Both father and son had been out crab fishing south of Sørøya in Finnmark. After the ship crashed at Gambik, a large scale SAR operation was launched. A Sea King SAR helicopter was searching in a larger area to identify objects that required closer search. The search was continued on Jan 10. Besides the deceased, only an unopened naval box and two survival suits have been found. At 3:40 p.m., the lifeboat 'Peter Henry von Koss' was stood down due to the challenging weather conditions in the area. On Jan 12, the police search ashore ended for the time being.
