Oil storarge ship set to leave Hunterston
The 'Petrojarl Foinaven' is set to leave the Hunterston Terminal in Fairlie Harbour this week. The ship has reached the end of its design life and is to be decommissioned. The ship had been transferred to Hunterston on an interim basis to facilitate a safe handover to the owners, the Teekay Corporation. Some BP equipment was removed from the vessel prior to the handover. Teekay have now taken over the operation of the ship from previous owners BP. The vessel is no longer carrying any oil cargo.

Fire on decommissioned FPSO
BP and Altera Infrastructure have launched an investigation after a fire broke out on the 'Petrojarl Foinaven' on April 2, 2022. It was detected in a store room on the vessel, around 120 miles west of Shetland, 95 nautical miles west- north-west of Sumburgh. The HM Coastguard received a call from an offshore installation reporting a fire on board just after 3 p.m. Coastguard helicopters were called from Sumburgh and Stornoway, and 30 non-essential workers were evacuated to nearby installations. A coastguard fixed wing aircraft was also due on scene to provide safety cover for the helicopters. Five people had to be assesed for smoke inhalation but required no further treatment. The fire was subsequently extinguished and posed no further risk to personnel, the environment or the asset. on April 2. Production from the Foinaven area was suspended in 2021 after it was announced that the vessel, which started up in 1997, was to be retired. Work has been ongoing to prepare it for removal. BP handed in the decommissioning plan for the FPSO earlier this year after a string of HSE issues cropped up. Altera, which is currently chartered by the London-listed company, will resume control of the vessel following removal from the field.
