Fishing vessel sank in South Pacific
The Republic of Fiji Navy through the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) Fiji coordinated the rescue of 19 crew members from the 'Playa Zahra Dos', which had run aground in northern Kadavu near the Fiji islands, 34 miles from Suva, on June 5, 2024, at around 3.45 p.m. The crew, which had abandoned ship onto two life rafts, was rescued by the 'Scorpio 68' at 7 p.m. The castaways were taken ashore and accomodated in the Kokomo hotel compolex, waiting to undergo a medical examination. The RFN and RCC FIJI extended an immense gratitude to Kokomo Island Resort for their assistance in deploying a volunteer team to aid in the rescue work. The ship sank completely on June 6 minutes before noon.
