Ferry broke down and was pushed by tug to Horseshoe Bay

Tue Apr 22 13:30:17 CEST 2025 Timsen

The 'Queen of Coquitlam' had to be assisted into Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver by the tug 'Ospresy' (IMO: 9623128) after suffering a mechanical failure on April 21, 2025, at 1 p.m., a short distance from the Langdale Terminal. The operation took 40 minutes. The breakdown led to disruptions on the busy Langdale-Horseshoe Bay route and stranded passengers for approximately three hours as it resulted in the cancellation of multiple sailings. The passengers and vehicles were off-loaded around 3:30 p.m. BC Ferries reported that the pitch control issue had been repaired by 2:20 p.m. The vessel was to undergo sea trials with the assistance of a tug, while awaiting final clearance from Transport Canada to resume service. The company aimed to restart sailings with the 4:20 p.m. departure from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale- The ferry company hired three 12-person-water taxis to shuttle travellers who were booked on other sailings. Two round-trip sailings of the ferry between Langdale on the Sunshine Coast and Horseshoe Bay had to be cancelled. Cancellations due to crew shortage

Tue May 31 11:09:45 CEST 2022 Timsen

A staff shortage on the 'Queen of Coquitlam' resulted in the cancellation of the 5:25 p.m. departure from Departure Bay in Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver and the cancellation of the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay sailing at 7:30 p.m. on May 29, 2022. The route was alredy affected earlier in the day by a shortage of staff. B.C. Ferries put out a notice on social media saying the 11:15 a.m. Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay sailing would be late because of a crew shortage. A replacement worker was found and the ferry was close to an hour late leaving Nanaimo. Baggage service was suspended on the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay route earlier Sunday because of a crew shortage.

Ferry sidelined due to technical trouble

Wed Jun 26 18:26:53 CEST 2019 Timsen

The BC Ferry schedule has been altered for June 25 and 26, 2019, after the "Queen of Coquitlam" encountered a mechanical problem and had to be taken out of service. Until she is back in service, the "Queen of Surrey" will operate on a modified schedule. There would not be any change to the morning sailings because the "Queen of Surrey" services those anyway, it’s just the afternoon sailings that will be affected. It was hoped to have business as usual for the "Queen of Coquitlam" by Juen 27.
